Our own Billy Gilman!

It is Rock N Jock Charities 25th Anniversary. We realize that money has been tight the last couple of years and some do not have the resources to buy a golf foursome, buy a tee sign or even buy tickets to our Night of Entertainment. So here is an alternative to help us raise more money for our kids. The smallest amount can help us reach our goals. We are asking our Rock N Jock Charities family to donate just $25 for our 25th Anniversary to raise $25,000! Please go to our website rocknjockcharities.com. There you will find the link to make a $25 donation.

Friday Night In Warren

This Saturday, 6:00p at the Feast!

JUST KEEP ON ROCKIN'

Message from Steve Smith

Last weekEND it was two more shows. On Friday we returned to Escada, Johnston, RI. It was awesome seeing the girls at Escada. Another fun night with Amie and her beautiful staff behind the bar. On arrival for set up, the tables were already covered with reserve signs. The dinner crowd is always early at Escada. The evening got enven better when Vinny Paz showed up with his entourage! Just a cool night at Escada. On Saturday we travel to Ninigret Park, Charlestown, RI for our second appearance at the Atlantis Rising Sand Sculpting Competition. Atlantis Rising is an international sand sculpture competition featuring 10 artists from all over the world competing for a cash prize for their sand sculpture. Unfortunately the weather was not willing to cooperate with anyone. we were hampered by a 60 mile an hour winds and torrential down pores. This forced the event presenters to cancel both the sculpture viewing and our show. We ended up not performing on Saturday. We did have the opportunity to view the sand sculptures. They were spectacular. Thanks to all who came to Escada on Friday. We apologize to anyone who may have traveled needlessly to Charlestown on Saturday. No one can predict the weather!

We do have to more great shows this weekend. It all starts on Friday with our return to The Hometown Tavern, Warren, RI. Make your reservation early for dinner on Friday night. Awesome food, an awesome staff, ice cold Gansetts and the Nakeds this Friday night. On Saturday we return to St. Anthony's Feast, North Providence, RI. Another outdoor show on Saturday. Come enjoy the spectacular food, games, amusement rides and music. Our show is from 6:00p to 10:00p on the midway! Don't forget to bring your own chairs and blankets. Hopefully St. Anthony will put in the fix for a beautiful summer evening at the feast! See you all Friday and Saturday!

Stay Safe, Stay Healthy, Stay Strong!

2025 Twenty Five Years as The Official Band of Narragansett Beer!

"IT WAS TWENTY YEARS AGO TODAY" Narragansett Brewing asked the band to play. We are very proud that Steve Smith and the Nakeds has been and still are the official band of Narragansett Beer. We can't thank Gansett enough for letting us be a part of their growing process since 2005 when they made the move to bring Narragansett Beer home to it's roots. You can now visit the facility at 271 Tockwotton Street, Providence, RI. The Nakeds and I look forward to promoting our favorite brew for another 20 years!

So Hi Neighbor! Have a Gansett!

The other night I was scanning the hundreds of movies available to me from my cable service. After a lengthy search I decided to revisit the Greatest Beer Run Ever. For those of you who haven't seen this movie yet, it's time to check it out.

Again my great friend Peter Farrelly chose another one of our songs to be placed in the Apple TV release, "The Greatest Beer Run Ever". We are honored, blessed and humbled that Peter would once again choose a Nakeds' song for this movie. "That's Alright" from our first Album, "Coming To Theatre Near You", is featured in "The Greatest Beer Run Ever" The film released on September 30, 2022 on Apple TV. The Movie features, Zac Efron, Russell Crowe and Bill Murray. Beer Run is directed by academy award winner and my friend Peter Farrely. We can't thank Peter enough for giving us this great honor and adding to the bands legacy! Check out the movie on Apple TV. It's just as fantastic as the first time I watched it!

Steve Smith and the Nakeds Golden Anniversary Ale!

After a year of brewing our Golden Anniversary Ale., Gansett let us know they will not be brewing any more of our beer. We can't thank Narragansett Beer enough for helping us celebrate our 50th Anniversary by giving us our own beer. Just a reminder. 2025 is the 20th Anniversary of Narragansett Beer's return to Rhode Island. It is also our 20th Anniversary of being the official band of Narragansett Beer! You never know? Maybe a beer commemorating our 20th year a representing Gansett.

Our Steve Smith and the Nakeds Golden Anniversary Ale Tee Shirt is still available at all shows and on the Nakeds website.

I’m Huge Video 1983!

I’m Huge Video 1983!

How "I'm Huge" came to be. By the early 1980s, Naked Truth had become the most popular band on Cape Cod. Their schedule included appearances at the biggest club on the Cape, The Casino By The Sea in Falmouth, Massachusetts, which encompassed every extra-celebratory point of the summer season from Memorial Day weekend to the Fourth of July to Labor Day weekend. But in Falmouth, there was an “extra” special weekend between the 4th and the end of summer: Road Race weekend in August. From 1972 to the present, Falmouth has played host to an annual seven mile race which ends at the Casino and by this time, there were over 10,000 runners competing. The band had become friendly with two of the bartenders at the Casino, Michael Hennessey and Billy Threadgold. (Bill was a college athlete who participated in the Road Race and worked his way through school tending bar in the summers.) In the summer of 1981, Mike and Billy bought a tiny motor boat to use as a fishing skiff in the mornings which, in tribute to the massive yachts, sailboats and cabin cruisers which docked or moored on the beach side of the Casino all summer, they christened “The Huge.” The little dinghy, which more often than not had to be bailed out in the morning before fishing could commence, became the talk of the town and “huge” became the buzzword of the summer:
How’re you doin’ today? I’m huge!
How was the band last night? They were huge!
How was that sandwich? It was huge!
Late one night during Fourth of July weekend ’81, the band was hanging out after their show with Billy and Mike sipping on GIQ’s of ‘Gansett. (The “Giant Imperial Quart” was a 42 ounce beer produced by the Narragansett Brewing Company of Cranston, Rhode Island, favored by the band which was dutifully and ritually stockpiled by the Nakeds before each road trip to ensure there would be some refreshments for the post-gig wind-down period after their shows.) One thing led to another and when someone asked, “How you doin’,” and got the expected answer, “I’m huge,” someone tossed out, “…and the babes go wild!” Next thing you know, Mike and Billy and trumpet player, Steve “The Kid” DeCurtis began running with the idea and the lines began to flow. Kevin Cason, the band’s bass player and chief arranger said, “I’d better write this down!” Before the sun came up, the song had been born. Before long, the band had worked up an arrangement of the tune and they debuted it at The Casino at their next appearance on Road Race weekend to a massive audience response. At that time MTV had been born and offered a format for unsigned bands to send independent videos for airplay on MTV. The show was called Basement Tapes. So in 1981 I had the idea of filming an
independent video of I'm Huge (and the babes go wild)! It was submitted to MTV's Basement Tapes and the Nakeds made the rotation. I recently dug up the beta master tape of that video and had it digitally formatted. Our 1983 I'm Huge (and the babes go wild) is now available to view on YouTube! https://youtu.be/t0GdD-hgiSU
